Multi-Vector Approaches to Building Professional Competence of Future Reserve Officers in the Higher Education System

Abstract

Contemporary geopolitical dynamics and the prevalence of hybrid threats underscore the critical need for innovative training methodologies for reserve officers. This study addresses the imperative to optimize training within higher education systems by developing professional competence through a multi-vector pedagogical approach that synchronizes cognitive, operational, and value-motivational domains. A mixed-methods research design was implemented, employing a convergent parallel design to integrate quantitative performance metrics with qualitative narrative protocols. The study involved 120 cadets, comparing an experimental group utilizing synchronized simulations and project-based learning with a control group following traditional curricula. The findings reveal that this multi-vector approach fostered a holistic increase in professional competence, particularly in technical proficiency and complex decision-making. Qualitative analysis of think-aloud protocols illustrated a transformative shift from fragmented theoretical knowledge to integrated operational fluency. Furthermore, the intervention significantly strengthened intrinsic motivation, demonstrating that the internalization of professional values is a key driver of competence growth. The results suggest that military departments should move toward holistic instructional architectures that simultaneously engage intellectual and affective dimensions. This model offers a scalable strategy for enhancing officer resilience and professional identity within the condensed timelines characteristic of reserve officer training programs.
